In the past month the BOGY took place in the whole of Baden-Württemberg. This is a one-week student placement at the Gymnasium, which is intended to make the later professional decision easier for the students. As I have been interested in computers since my childhood and spend some of my free time with programming, I decided to attend an internship in the field of computer science. The choice fell to the Visualization Research Center of the University of Stuttgart (VISUS), as I hoped to gain as much experience as possible in the three areas of work, research and student life.
During the stay I learned a lot about the research projects of VISUS, and came into contact with hardware, of which I could only dream. Like the Hololens, or the Powerwall. Furthermore, I was able to attend lectures and colloquia like a student, and even got a short tour in the MCI department. Of course, I also got a few minor tasks. For example, I had to update a presentation for a “Girl’s Day” workshop, which I also helped with. In addition, I had to write a program, which can change the time stamps of files. I especially liked the fact that I was given great freedom, in which area I wanted to learn more or work. But also from the friendliness and openness of the staff I was positively impressed.
Unfortunately, the week went by and I have to go back to school. However, I am more convinced than ever before that I will be in good hands in the field of computer science. And maybe I’ll come back to Stuttgart as a student.
